THE BRIEF:

This beautiiful cottage in idyllic surroundings in Wiltshire called for a traditional landscape design that reflected both the period of the house and the authentic quality of the original materials used.
We were able to source locally, reclaimed Yorkstone for all the paving and old Wire cut bricks for intricate edging work.
Initial major groundworks including; drainage works, demolishing walls, moving trees etc. This allowed us to re-model the space immediately around the cottage to give separate but linked identities to the various aspects of the property.
Working closely with the owners, we managed to create a garden in keeping with the style and age of this lovely dwelling.

COURTYARD

Laid in old York flags with a central Jardiniere and geometrically shaped flower beds planted with ‘David Austin’ Roses and ground cover herbs.

DRIVEWAY

Old walls were removed to maximise the parking/access to the property. Erecting ‘ranch ‘ style post and rail fences and traditional 5 bar in and out gates. The old Cherry tree at the front was saved by building a Drystone wall around its root plate. A mature Box hedge planted along the front boundary. Old style climbing Roses were planted also to clothe the cottage walls. Also a rustic style wooden arch with trellis wings and gate, planted with cottagey climbers finished the romantic appearance

LAWN

The old lawn, found to be too badly infested with weeds and moss, was dug up and replaced with fine quality turf, after several tonnes of screened topsoil was incorporated. The old Alpine beds were rebuilt using matching stone and totally replanting the raised beds. Also an herbaceous border was planted as a classic backdrop to the broad new lawn.
Finally a traditional Beech hedge was planted to give a backdrop
