THE BRIEF
The brief for this garden in Kew was to create a stylish urban space that would not be too harsh, and that would allow for luxuriant planting and ample space for parties etc.
The starting point was to completely clear the old garden. Working alongside another garden designer we established strong lines and dimensions.
Building London stock walls with Indian sandstone paving slotted around a newly laid lawn gave us the large deep areas we needed for fertile beds which could be filled with rich, mature shrubs, bulbs and perennials.
The old raised terrace was partly removed and rebuilt and relevelled with a brand new stairway with a storage room underneath.
The extension was clad in black trellis for climbers to frame the large new picture wndows and acrylic mirrors were mounted behind trellis on the terrace to optimise the feeling of light and space.
Terracotta pots with clipped Box and Bay soften this area without losing the sharpness of the materials used
