THE BRIEF
The brief for this garden in Richmond was to create a stylish urban space that would not be too harsh, and that would allow for relaxed living and lounging and ample space for parties etc.
The starting point was to completely clear the old garden. This involved digging out and taking away, literally tons of spoil and foliage. We were then left with an empty canvas to create our new contemporary space. We felt it was important to have the garden on one level with a decking seating area and hammock at the back to draw you into the garden and use it like an outdoor room
London stock walls gave us a traditional garden that was secure and private and using smooth hardwood Balau decking, Maranti lateral trellis and Belgravia artificial grass we were able to modernise the space but still keep the materials warm and comfortable
We built a long bench and shelf using the same decking boards. as well as making new steps and boxing in the old unsightly man-hole
Lighting was kept fairly ambient with some dimmable downlighters, marker lights in the deck and steps, an uplighter for the Acer tree and a low level LED strip light around the Yorkstone patio
