THE BRIEF:

This modestly sized garden in Richmond gave us the opportunity to create a perfectly balanced garden in terms of space, materials and dimensions. Firstly, erecting the Closeboard fencing to give us a new box in which to map out our design. Then clearing all the overgrown growth and accumulated rubbish, levelling and preparing the plot for the landscaping proper.

Materials to be used were discussed with the client and the result was; old yellow stocks, Kotah blue sandstone, lawn and stylish planting.

Using the stocks to create a geometric shape that leads around the garden gives us a mowing strip for the lawn and frames and contrasts with the grey paving. Brick walls of differing heights were built to give height and allow for new plantings and create a seperate seating area. Plants used are bold and strong in nature but relatively well behaved in terms of growth so as not to overwhelm the space and give largely all year round interest.

Rolawn 'Medallion' turf was laid to finish off and enhance the jewel like quality of this small but perfectly formed garden
