THE BRIEF:
This modestly sized garden in Richmond gave us the opportunity to create a perfectly balanced garden in terms of space, materials and dimensions. Firstly, erecting the Closeboard fencing with lateral trellis to give us a new 'box' in which to map out our design. Also painting the fencing a nice dark grey gave it that cool back drop to show off the materials and plants. Then clearing all the overgrown growth and accumulated rubbish, levelling and preparing the plot allowed us to focus on the landscaping proper.
Materials to be used were discussed with the client and the result was; Sawn cream Indian sandstone, Ipe hardwood decking, artificial grass and some simple, stylish planting.
Using the paving, hand cut into a circle, to create a geometric shape that leads the eye around the garden, gives us a natural seating area from which to expand the theme. Artificial grass cut to a crescent shape echoes the circular motif and softens the starkness of the stone. Ipe decking runs from the bay window to bring the garden together on one level and lead you into the garden. Lighting used is dimmable LEDs in the decking and spotlights to uplight the Olive tree and grasses
