THE BRIEF:
A complete overhaul was the thrust of this project in Barnes. The old front garden had a couple of large tree stumps, some non-descript shrubs and an Ivy covered wall. Obviously we needed to reflect the period and style of the house so we chose a traditional design, with old imperial reclaimed bricks, iron railings, geometric tiled path and cottagey planting
Clearing all the stumps and assorted masonry we set about building the new walls to match with the neighbours in colour and size. Also the railings and gate were very similar in style to enhance the feeling of identity in the street. Victorian Rope tiles were used to edge the front path and 'Original Style' geometric tiles laid to complete the authentic period integrity. Good old Indian sandstone was used again but this time 'Raj Green', which is the most 'natural' in tone and is by far the most popular colour
Planting was kept fairly muted in the palette of colours we chose, so as not to be too gaudy or high maintenance and quite a few of the plants chosen are evergreen to ensure the garden has strong 'bones' throughout the seasons
